I am so done I can't even

There are more caps somewhere on my computer but it's midnight and I started this like three hours ago and my brain has lost all rational thought. In conclusion: WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL JUST HAPPENED ALL OVER MY COMPUTER.

I think either the router or modem is dead, possibly both. I have no idea. I cannot get a connection through the router, I've reset it about four or five times, unplugged it, actually used an ethernet cable to connect to it and the result is always the same: full colored bars, "limited to no connectivity." When I try to repair it through Windows it tells me the IP address cannot be renewed.

I get the same problem when directly connecting the computer to the modem. This occured for both my laptop and Juli's desktop.

I don't understand.

Obviously it's not my wireless card, because I can connect to the weak signals of other people's networks. But STILL. I seriously don't understand.

I don't know how many tech geeks I have on my flist anymore, but does anyone have a program outside of VirtualDub that is good for clipping/screencapping? For some reason VirtualDub does not work on my computer... every single file I open, regardless of how new or old the file is, ends up looking like ( this. )

The files in question have been tested on other computers and open in VirtualDub fine on other computers - and it does this no matter which version of VirtualDub I run. So either it's my computer or it's VirtualDub. VirtualDub used to work fine, too, this all started probably five or sixth months ago, I just haven't really fiddled with it.

Any help, or pointing me towards guides, is greatly appreciated.
