I'm sorry I'm not going to shut up about this for a while.

The animeanime.jp website reports that the anime will be a 22-episode season that will cover the storyline of the live-action version's first two seasons. The first volume will ship on January 12 with the first two episodes. On February 2, the "Box 1" set will ship with episodes 3 to 12. On April 6, the "Box 2" set will ship with episodes 13 to 22. (There will be a different release schedule for the rental version of the project.)

The anime project will not only remake the best episodes from the live-action version, but also depict original episodes not seen in the live-action version. Those original episodes will include prologues of the Winchester brothers' childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version.

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is credited as the anime project's creator, and MADHOUSE co-founder Masao Maruyama is serving as executive producer. Naoya Takayama (Night Head, Liar Game) is supervising the series' scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Trigun) is designing the characters. Source: ANN

...why does this whole project remind me of Powerpuff Girls Z and Stitch!? Though I'm not a fan of Supernatural, I can't help but wonder what the benefit is of making the series animated.

It just really blows my mind. I mean, I knew it was popular, there's a decent spectrum of doujinshi available for it and Japanese fanart is plentiful, but it.. came out of nowhere.

Well, I mean. It could be worse. At least you have Madhouse doing the animation, they're pretty skilled with this sort of series, from my understanding. I dunno, what do you think? Are you expecting Epic or Epic Fail?

I honestly, don't know yet. This has been a one-two punch with FMA ending and this announcement. I guess I'm more hoping for the epic crack; although I don't know if the show will be The Show if it doesn't have the epic classic rock soundtrack.

I'm thinking that I'll like it regardless, but I don't know about the rest of the fandom. I'm well-tuned to being an anime fan, but for a lot of people in the fandom this'll be their first exposure to anime.

Ah, yeah. That's a very valid point. It'll be interesting to see if this creates anime fans out of an older generation, or if they'll stick their noses up at it.

Now my biggest question is, of course, what seiyuu will be attached. xD

EXACTLY. I don't know much about Supernatural, otherwise I would speculate with you. I am a BIG seiyuu nerd.

I have never watched anime but it looks like a lot of people are happy about this. I hope it's much better than the comics and the novels. Now I actually can't wait to see it!

I've never had a fandom collision like this before. I mean, I happily muck about with SPN doujinshi and stuff. Since WB owns the property already, maybe when they bring it over here everyone will get to reprise their roles voice-acting.

Since it's a 22 episode series I'm holding out hope for merchandise. I want a plushie of Sam and Dean ~~and Cas and the Impala~~ SO HARD.
