My glasses frame broke today. Insurance doesn't kick in for another month and a half or so.

I am totally screwed, yay!

[Edit] My glasses are being held together by scotch tape and sheer willpower. Driving home = ADVENTURE TIME YAY.

A fix I Used to use, go to your local car repair place and get a gas tank repair/radiator repair kit. The putty kind, not the fiberglass one.

Its a cylinder of goop with an inner and outer layer. Cut a length, squeeze it and squish it till its a uniform color and wrap it around the break. Then shape it as minimally as you can before it hardens, it looks like grey snot, but it hardens like STONE.

I used to fix my glasses that way all the time. Great stuff when hinges disintegrate. It will hold you till the insurance kicks in.

Are you channeling Harry Potter with the spellotape holding the glasses together?

THAT'S WHAT I SAID! ROFL!

Great minds think alike like woah.

Maybe great minds would be more interested in helping their supposed friend rather than shining in the light of their own "wit".

C'mon, person has a serious problem here!

Considering she offered to let me crash at her place and attempt to fix my glasses with some glue that she's got; she's helped plenty - just in the offline variety.

I appreciate the advice; it is very helpful and I'm going to look into it when I go out today. Now, if you don't mind me asking; uh. Who are you/where do you hail from? I don't mind random people wandering across my journal... just doesn't happen often so I'm confused when it does.

Sorry, I'm on Hakebers's friends list. I've been home sick in bed, and I am out of it enough that I thought I was clicking on my friends posting list and clicked on hers instead. Thats where I saw your problem, and thought. THIS I know how to help. :)

And believe me, I've been there. I'd be utterly lost without my glasses, in fact I keep a spare pair. "Need them to drive safely" I guess I just thought I'd be annoyed if I had a serious problem and instead of advice I got stale wit. Again, being sick and crabby I over reacted a bit. "I'm a famous one for "over reaction".

Anyway, apologies if I overstepped my bounds, And you will find this epoxy putty works better than glue, its not an esthetic fix, but wow is it a SOLID one. its sold in a tube. Just be sure they sell you the epoxy putty one not the layered fiberglass one.

I just hope i helped. :)

Not really a tube, more like a soft clay cylinder wrapped in shrink wrap, it reacts with air. "very quickly once its mixed. Its used to plug gas tank leaks and also to fix cracks in radiator shells. Anything yo wrap it around is inside to stay, its REALLY hard.

Okay... will it stick to EVERYTHING?! Or... are there limitations? Because now I'm thinking of 1,000 different things around my place that needs a good helping of this stuff.

Some surfaces a little sanding helps, of course it works best when its something where you can wrap it all the way around the break. Is supposed to work with metal and plastic, I'd say buy some and experiment. If you keep the unused portion sealed airtight, it should keep.

No hard feelings at all; and thanks for the information! (We all have bad days.) It will be put to good use one way or another.

You are officially uninvited to my house until you're bored with that stuff.
