I am tempted by the Hitchhiker's Guide book, would like to hear more about those first two Japan books, and would be interested in a book appropriate as an introduction to Terry Pratchett, if you know, like, what order they go in or something.

I read most of theses books before I bought them... Both the Rincewind and the Granny Weatherwax novels are in order on the list.

I started with 'The Color of Magic,' which was one of the VERY FIRST Discworld novels. It is teh WIN and a great starter. It's about Rincewind and a tourist named Twoflower touring Discworld... which is a very dangerous place to be touring, and their hilarious mishaps on the way. The other Rincewind books follow it, but they involve different stuff.

Granny Weatherwax is about a group of witches in a more fairytale setting. I would say Rincewind is more of a "Dungeons and Dragons" fantasy while Weatherwax is more of a traditional fairytale setting. Their both REALLY FUNNY either way.

I've also read the 'Light Fantastic,' which is the second Rincewind novel, and I would reccomend getting it considering the 'Color of Magic' ends with Rincewind falling off of the edge of the earth (AKA: CLIFFHANGER MAJOR)

As for the Japan books, they're textbooks I used in a Japanese culture class I took one summer. They're not worn out, but they are used. It's a pretty neat combo... the two authors have very different veiwpoints on Japanese culture and what makes the Japanese who they are.

The difference in the content is that Hendry seems to write more to inform while Smith is more essay-like in that he points out different issues and makes arguments. (Smith is actually a journalist... go figure.)

Please let me know if you are interested!

Is "Bust-a-Move" like DDR?
Monday, May 2nd, 2005 12:56 am (UTC)
Nah, Bust-A-Move is the game with the little dinosaures and the crane that they use to bust colored bubbles before they reach the bottom of the screen.
Kinda' like Tetris in reverse... I think they have a version of it on Neo Pets. >^_^
