I turn on the TV to find the original Star Wars on. o.o

I'm just in time for the Battle of Yavin. *SQUEE*

Also, my computer apparently is dead. It takes about fifteen-twenty minutes for a window to open. I can't burn any CDs. I can't do much of anything. It took about ten minutes to open a Firefox window, all my bookmarks are gone, et cetera. I've run Adaware and a virus check is running now. >.> Gah. What the hell happened? I don't need this. My computer worked until I restarted it. It ran a little slow, but it worked. >.< GAH.

[Edit]: I also can't reboot in Safe Mode. It starts and then just sits there. :/ The hell? I WANT MY COMPUTER TO NOT HATE ME, DAMMIT. I've got too much work on this drive to want to just reformat it. :/ I need to burn shit off first and it won't let me burn! AUGH!

[Edit2]: AUGH. No matter WHAT mode I'm in, it won't let me open My Computer or any of my drives. What the hell is wrong with my computer? I can surf on Firefox with no problems at all (but IE? IE mocks me and won't load at all); but that's about it. If I try to save an image on Firefox, my computer locks up and dies. THIS IS REALLY PISSING ME OFF.

So I asked my boyfriend what was wrong with your computer, and he said "Um.. everything?" and then I swatted him.

He thinks it sounds like so much crap is going wrong with it that you'll probably need to reformat. >_O

It fries my brain... this drive was just reformated in August. It was starting to run slow last week but I figured that was because I have a lot of crap on it. I can't reformat it just yet because I need to get all my original work (comics, scans etcetera) off the drive first... I can access my My Documents folder but nothing else. .__. (Luckily all the stuff on my main drive is either on my desktop or My Documents.)

AUGH! I don't need this now!

Dude, tell me about it. We reinstalled Windows on my machine a few months ago because it was being bitchy, and now, NOW, WITH THE FRESH INSTALLATION, it's completely. ass. slow. and can't even SHUT DOWN correctly. I have to smack the power button and kill it that way just to get the damn thing to turn off.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY SO CONFUSED WHY?!

I would run a Symantec Security Check online
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

Sometimes it catches things that normal Symantec can't. I just fixed a laptop that had some of the same symptoms so don't give up yet. She had a worm, some virus remnants, and some really agressive spyware keeping me from opening My Computer or the CD drive. Thanks to some fix tools from Symantec I got it up and running again, and it's now at least useable even though I didn't have the time to go through and clean all the spyware.

I also recommend Spybot - Search & Destroy, because it catches lots of things that Ad-Aware can't (and vice versa).

It really sounds like something's running in the background sucking up all of your memory - check your processes list if you can find it, go to Google, and type in the name of each process and figure out what it is. If it's a jumbled mess of letters and numbers that's a good indication that you have a virus or worm.

Reinstalling Windows isn't a good solution if it's a worm or virus. They stay in your hard drive somehow - I can't explain it but I've worked on a lot of computers that have either stayed infected or gotten reinfected in a couple days or less because the cause of the problem wasn't taken care of before the reinstall. Make sure you get any Windows critical updates for it...and make sure you follow Symantec removal directions exactly because if you remove things in the wrong order or leave out steps part of the infection stays. If you had XP I'd be able to help you out a lot more, but since 2000 is somewhat related maybe the above things will help enough to get it running again.
