[Unspoilery] The FMA novel runs almost identical to the two episodes 'The False Elric Brothers.' There are some minor differences (a lack of involvement of the homunculi, for one), and some differences in the timeline because it's the manga continuity and not the show. But aside from that... same. Interesting to read to catch the differences, but you know exactly where everything is going.
That being said, I had difficulties reading it. Now, I know it's translated from the Japanese, and it feels like they did a good job. Some of the sentences are choppy, though, and it just didn't seem to *flow* to me. Frankly, most of the fanfiction I read flows better.
So, my $.02. I'll snap up each of the novels as they come out because, hey, I want to read them translated (especially the ones that don't have an anime equivalent), and they're decently done. I just prefer fanfiction over the official novels.
Ack, last night was the most BORING NIGHT ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. We were falling asleep on our feet. It was ridiculous. Also, I hit Scott in the back of the head a few times and he doesn't remember it. *is amused* We went to wake him up on lunch, 'cause he goes to sleep in his car, and we were going to drum on his window. Except, um, his window wasn't up and I thought it was. Commence drumming on his head. But he doesn't remember it. *vastly amused by this* I'd probably feel guiltier if he hadn't been like "you really hit me in the head?" for the next hour.
Also, my reflexes scare him. He threw a pair of pants back at me after I flung it at his head, and without looking at it I plucked it out of the air. *is quite pleased with that*
Ahaha, now I'm really amused. My
alchemic_bean journal was one of five nominated for 'best layout.' I ♥ Fandom High.

Also, when reading that cheap alchemy book I got? The very first line in the book is the exact line from the Emerald Tablet I started out my alchemy notes with. That really amuses me. Also, the first quoted text in this book is "The Waterstone of the Wise." My amusement knows no bounds.
