Whoohoo! This took about four hours to upload all the videos, so SOMEONE better download'em. XD
So,
senashenta posted some of her favorite AMVs, and now I feel I have to do the same. However, I was going to limit myself to five. I ended up with over twenty-five in a folder that took me close to thirty minutes to cull down into ten. So you're getting ten.
These are in no particular order, mind. They'll only be available online for a few days through this site, afterwards you'll have to find them yourself. (AMV.org is always a good place to start.)
Memories Dance. You'll notice one thing very quickly about the videos I've picked for my list, they're usually very emotional videos. That's the most important thing to me in a video is the emotion behind it. Quality footage is nice, and good editing is always important, but the biggest factor on making it into my favorites list is pure, raw emotion. This AMV invokes a sense of awe and wonder and it feels like you are trudging through the gorgerous worlds of Ghibli for the first time. Even if you've never seen a Studio Ghibli film, watch this video. The art direction and the editing are incredible.
Anime: Studio Ghibli works up to Princess Mononoke
Song: The Mummer's Dance by Loreena McKennicc
Odorikuruu. To lighten the mood a bit, here is a glorious video rich in kinetic energy. If you can watch this video without having the urge to get up and move, then you're a sad individual. Every clip is about movement, dancing, singing, what have you. Another video with gorgeous art direction but in an entirely different sense. The video has such energy it's impossible not to like it. It keeps moving but isn't frantic. Just a lot of fun.
Anime: Lots. And lots.
Song: Mamboleo by Elissa
Dreams. Back to the emotional content with this video. This is just a feel-good video. To see the characters that you've grown to love through the course of many series be happy, and find what they're searching for just makes you feel happy. To see the good and the bad, to see relationships form and fall apart. It's another one of those videos you just have to watch to understand.
Anime: Various
Song: Dreams by Gabrielle
Invincible. This isn't the best video out there for editing or video quality. (It's a bit murky, to tell the truth.) Overall, it isn't the best video ever for any good reason. I like it, though, because it was one of the earlier AMVs I downloaded and probably my first exposure to the Kenshin OAV. The song is good, the action fits the song well, and in the end, that's all that really matters. A nice, violent AMV for you all.
Anime: Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen
Song: Invincible by Pat Benetar
Particle Man. And, on the other end of the spectrum is this video. Hey, humor sells big with me. Very, very well. Extraordinarily well-executed.
Anime: Rurouni Kenshin
Song: Particle Man by They Might be Giants
Rakuen is Here. Wow. This is my single favorite Wolf's Rain video. I had never heard the song before and it's absolutely gorgeous, it fits the anime so well. The background instruments often sound like wolf's howls. I can't say much more about it except wow, and watch it now. Do be warned, there are scenes from later on in the series but as far as I can tell, no significant spoilers.
Anime: Wolf's Rain
Song: Small Two of Pieces (from the Xenogears OST)
Euphoria. This is one of those videos that you need to watch at least twice in one sitting just to take in the sheer amount of effects used. I had never heard of Frou Frou before I saw this video and this made me fall in love with the band. RahXephon is one of my favorite mech anime and this encompasses the show well without giving you much information. It piques the interest and makes people want to check it out. And, did I mention the effects? Lots of wow.
Anime:RahXephon
Song: Must be Dreaming by Frou Frou
Die Another Day. Did you really think you'd escape without a Bond song on my list? This isn't my favorite of any of the Bond theme songs by a long shot, but the composition with this song and series is incredible. The two mesh terrifically, and the visual effects are superb. Everything flows together smartly, and it's incredibly to watch them flow together. Be warned though, this isn't a video to watch on a slow-running computer. Everything matches up.
Anime: Noir
Song: Die Another Day by Madonna
Danger Zone. If you know me you know that I have a pilot fetish. I also really enjoy Macross Plus. What do you get when you combine the best fighter-pilot movie with an awesome anime about fighter planes that turn into mechs? Me turning into a blubbering pile of mush. Not only is this a well choreographed video but it also has dialogue from the movie worked in, and worked in extraordinarily well. Watching this video makes me want to pull out X-Wing alliance like NO ONE'S business.
Anime: Macross Plus
Song: Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins
Beautiful Goodbye. And to close with another one that pulls at the heartstrings. I've restarted watching Cardcaptor Sakura, and this still is my favorite CCS AMV. From the second movie. The end of the video is what really does it, though. Incredible.
Anime:Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card
Song: Beautiful Goodbye by Amanda Marshall
And, since this has taken forever to compose and I just want to share this, a bit of crack for all you FMA fans. This is what happens when I'm bored and I have Adobe Premiere on my computer. So folks, enjoy. WATCH THE FMA ONE. It makes me giggle a lot. XD
