I've been working my way through a backlog of Newtype disks today. Whee. I attempted the first episode of Saint Seiya. When I say "attempted", I mean why oh why did I subject myself to more than two minutes of that? Ow. Pain. I am not a fan of "dated" anime ... I know the animation now will be dated ten years from now, but I started out on this stuff. 80's anime ... makes me want to cry.
I don't think I even need to mention the dub.
Then I got around to Pretear. I had heard of this show and was like "meeeeh, shoujo. Since I watched morethanenough Saint Seiya, I can give this show a shot." Now, if you know me at all you know I'm not a huge fan of shoujo ... I don't go out of my way for it. That doesn't mean I hate shoujo ... but if you give me a choice between a romance anime or a fighting one ... I'll pick the fighting. So, the thought train was "meh ... Pretear ... shoujo-y stuff."
Do you know what I've been doing the past five or six minutes? Cleaning up the coke I spilled all over the carpet from when they introduced the main female character. She is loud, agressive and violent. Yay. Although she seems to have shifted by the end of the episode into a more traditional shoujo-role, her introduction was great enough for me to want to see more of the series. That, and how she and the main knight-guy met. XD *wham* Violence is fun.
Also, the fact that this group of knights is made up of a whole range of guys ... I particularly like the fact that the three kids are kids ... they really act like them. It's great, I love it. I'd like to see more of it now. So, off to watch more demodisks, expect more reviews later.
